The Northern Herd Development Co-Op Story

NHD was established at Cohuna, Northern Victoria, in 1974. Thirty six years later, NHD has successfully and sustainably grown to service the herd improvement needs of Dairy and Beef farmers right across Northern Victoria, in the Riverina and Southern NSW,  as well as throughout South Australia. NHD’s Cohuna based laboratory now analyses well over one million milk samples for dairy farmers throughout these regions annually. NHD provides milk analysis and data processing services to a number of privately owned Companies, as well as a number of Herd Test Associations on a contract basis.

NHD also provides independent, quality-breeding advice, semen supplies from all Australian and International semen companies, all forms of stock services (Artificial Inseminations, freeze branding, de-horning etc.), and a complete range of Artificial Breeding merchandise.

NHD also provides an individual cow assessment and corrective mating program to it’s clients.

NHD is also the largest distributor of Campbell’s Dairy detergents and chemicals Australia wide.

2009 saw NHD become livestock agents for Elders.

Through its close trading relationship with the companies that NHD contracts herd recording and data processing for, combined with it’s own clientele, NHD has one of Australia’s largest dairy farmer databases.

NHD has offices in Cohuna, Wangaratta and Murray Bridge.

NHD is continually searching for avenues to become more closely associated with the farmers business, through adding value to those farmers herd assets – which in turn, will become the driving force to trade with NHD.
